In the heart of the forest, Fawcett discovers ancient ceramic fragments that seem to offer evidence of the existence of a lost city.
When Fawcett returns to England, he proclaims a belief in an ancient South American civilization which he calls the Lost City of Z, but is mocked by the scientific community that qualifies indigenous populations as "savages."
At the same time, he is confronted with the price of his adventures with his wife, the witty Nina played by Sienna Miller and her children, whom she teaches alone during her long absences.
Even so, it is with the help and encouragement of Nina that Fawcett defies the skeptics and organizes a second expedition where he is accompanied by the wealthy adventurer James Murray (Angus Macfadyen). During the harrowing journey, Fawcett and his men survive fierce rapids, attacks by cannibal tribes, endless rain and disease.
Excited, Fawcett discovers a set of enigmatic stone sculptures, but is forced to turn back when a weakened Murray sabotages the mission.
Arrives in Europe at the beginning of the First World War. Almost a stranger to his family, he immediately goes to France where he leads an artillery brigade.
Years later, his embittered son Jack (Tom Holland) convinces him to leave early retirement to embark on a last trip to the Amazon in search of the Lost City of Z.
